Coggeshall Residents Against the Quarry

Run a business? Will the flood scheme affect you?

The Environment Agency’s proposal for solving the flooding problem at little cost to the public purse will result in 20 years of quarrying on a massive scale in the valley of the river Blackwater right in the heart of Coggeshall.

We think this proposal will have a serious impact on the economy of Coggeshall. You may not be able to see the quarry from the centre of Coggeshall but the presence of a 155ha quarry on the doorstep of the village just cannot be ignored. Changes to the landscape caused by the extraction of 13 million tonnes of aggregates will result in the loss of strategic, historic  views and will change our perception of the village and its place in the landscape.

Please answer the following questions to help us assess the impact of the proposal on the economy of  Coggeshall.
